Touch of Classic is an iPad application designed for the little ones that brings classics from popular literature to the environment of tablets and touch screens with interactivity in mind. Recently I was able to attend the presentation of an app to iPad carried out in Spain by the developers of Media Minds, Touch of Classic. The event took place at The HUB Madrid, in the last The App Date of the year. There were also other applications designed not only for mobile phones but also for tablets and Smart TVs.
Touch of Classic It is a very interesting initiative that already has two projects behind it and that have the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library. They make for tablets a version of classics of literature in story format and with texts in verse form, playing with rhymes to make them more fun. So far they have made El Quijote, how could it be otherwise, and Summer night Dream of Shakespeare. The two stories are in the appstore in both English and Spanish. As they announced to us, they are about to finish their third project with the gothic novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
Los stories They are illustrated in a different way each time so as not to bore the reader, while the management and configuration spaces of the application are repeated in the different projects so that the user gets used to it and improves usability.
Some parts are voiced by professional actors to enliven the use. The touch screen of the iPad offers the possibility for the child to interact with the animated illustrations, which react to the touch. This resource encourages play and is used in the form of riddles and tests located at the end of the chapters to establish what has been read. The classic model of reading is thus broken, in which the adult handles the story and reads it and teaches it to the child, by a model in which the child participates thanks to the interactivity.
We are happy to see that in Spain there are initiatives to bring technology even closer to ancient pleasures. Media Minds told us that they are working to make Touch of Classic soon also available for Android and therefore on Google Play.
