Acer Iconia Tab A700 starts receiving update to Jelly Bean

Acer Iconia Tab A700 Jelly Bean

We've received information from the United States that the Acer Iconia Tab A700 tablets have been receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update since last night. This Acer tablet hasn't exactly been a huge hit despite its features, likely due to its initial price, which was later reduced. It seems the Asus Transformer tablets aren't the only ones receiving Jelly Bean this week.

The curious thing about this is that it was the users themselves who broke the news, and Acer hasn't yet issued any kind of notification or statement on the matter. The update is about 332 MB and is being rolled out over the air (OTA ) very gradually. It would be a good idea for those who own this tablet to check their settings for any available updates.

This will make it the first Acer tablet to have Jelly Bean, pending the release of the Iconia Tab A110 which will come with Google's latest operating system from the start.

A few days ago, we dedicated an article to the Acer Iconia Tab A700, noting that it had one of the best battery lives, if not the best, and reflecting on how illogical it was that it had gone so unnoticed despite being a good tablet. We said that with the Jelly Bean update it would be a significant improvement, and here it is.

Why would it be a good idea to update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ? Because it's better than its predecessor in every way. Its user interface is faster and more intuitive , it has a better browser, several new Google apps, and some functional improvements like facial recognition unlocking. This update may also fix some performance issues that arose from poor adaptation of the operating system to the tablet. If Acer has done its homework, this should be largely resolved.
