Archos 116 XS with Jelly Bean joins the Archos Gen 10 XS range

Archos 116XS

We've received news that the French tablet manufacturer Archos is preparing a new model in its low-cost hybrid tablet range , the Archos Gen 10 XS . Until now, we were familiar with three models: the Archos 80 XS, Archos 101 XS, and Archos 97 XS. But everything points to an 11,6-inch tablet arriving in early 2013 , whose main novelty will be that it will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. We'll tell you more about the Archos 116 XS.

Archos Gen 10 XS Tablets

A few days ago, we were surprised by the arrival of this new range of tablets, which offer similar features to Asus' Transformer series, albeit at a lower price. Therefore, we can also expect them to have lower-quality components and overall quality. For now, we only know the technical specifications of the Archos 101 XS . This tablet features a 10,1-inch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution, a 1,5 GHz multi-core ARM Cortex A-9 processor, and 1 GB of RAM. It will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, though it is upgradable to Jelly Bean. It connects to the internet via Wi-Fi and has all the ports you'd expect on a tablet. The standout feature is its magnetic keyboard case, which provides a comfortable typing experience and also serves as a charging station. The tablet itself is thin, at only 8 mm, but the case adds just 5 mm. It is already on sale in the UK and Germany for a total price of €379.

Well, Archos isn't stopping there, and it's been leaked that they'll be releasing a similar tablet with an 11,6-inch screen and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. The tablet in question will be called the Archos 116 XS , and many of its technical specifications have been leaked. Its screen is said to be Full HD 1080p with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It will have identical connectivity to the Archos 101 XS and will also include the magnetic keyboard case, which we hope will be the same thickness. It's rumored to be priced under €500. If so, and the processor is even slightly better, it could be a good option.

The leak also revealed prices for the other two devices in the Gen 10 XS range. The Archos 80 XS , with an 8-inch 4:3 display, will be priced under €200 and aims to compete with the Nexus 7. The Archos 97 XS , with a 9,7-inch 4:3 display, will also ship with Jelly Bean and will cost around €399.

Archos is at the IFA and we still have two days left. It would be great to see something concrete from the Archos Gen 10 XS range.
