Many will remember RT Windows for being a light version of the operating system, which basically focused on the Metro interface (or Modern UI) to deploy an experience on tablets similar to what iOS could offer with the iPad o Android usually. However, this bet did not work at all and it was from the Surface Pro 4When Microsoft brought environments together, the moment when its platform began to gain the interest of users.
What is Windows RT and how did that version look?
Today, Windows RT is surely remorseful as one of the great fiascos Microsoft. Back in 2012, the Redmond firm launched its first Surface Pro and a cheaper and lighter version, with an ARM processor, called Surface RT. The two together probably did not sell even a quarter of the units that the third generation sold later, after the arrival of Satya Nadella, when the system was full in a single team. And, previously, the strategy was somewhat confusing and it was difficult for the user to understand exactly what he was buying.
On the other hand, it must be said that Windows 8 was generally disastrous, not only is there numerous evidence of usability experts that prove it, it is also that the user himself has rejected it for being quite incomprehensible and very unstable.
Nowadays, however, to achieve an effect similar to what was previously Windows RT, it is used as a resource 10 Windows Mobile on tablets with ARM processor. A good example of this is the Cube WP10 that we have told you about in TabletZona on more than one occasion. The idea is very similar to that of Android or iOS: an interface optimized for the touch and a store that apps to install everything from there. The problem, clearly, is that the Windows Store is infinitely more limited than the App Store from Apple or Google Play in terms of content and applications.
How the Creators Update will allow us to return to Windows RT
Basically, as he tells us Windows Central, is a configuration option that is used to limit downloads only to the official app store, something similar to Windows 10 "Cloud", another version in which Microsoft is working to make the cloud the center of the experience. Logically, this has positive and negative parts.
There will be, as we read, two ways of working with this restriction, a very slight one in which we only need to hit 'Install anyway' when we are trying to put something on the tablet from outside the Windows Store (unknown origins in Android), and another that will not directly allow any code to be installed that does not come from the store.
As we say, this function can be activated or deactivated in the configuration menu> System> Applications and features from the Creators Update version (or RedStone 2, as it is also known) and choose which setting we want.
We also commented above that it will have good things and not so good things. For example, we find it very positive for users first timers or inexperienced, which is easy to slip a pufo from the network or to mess with the architectures. Devices that are only used as tablets will also welcome this limitation, since basically we will have access to a selection of apps optimized for touch control. Even so, as is logical we will not be able to limit access to the traditional environment, but with the tablet mode these features should be a good fit, especially now that Windows 10 becomes a serious alternative to the format.
Windows 10 Creators Update, a long-awaited version
