A few days ago we presented you applications to experiment creating music with your iPad as the only instrument, and today we tempt you to use it again as means to express your creativity, but through painting. Drawing on a touch screen is a totally different experience than doing it with the mouse in PC programs, and we cannot help but advise you to try it.

The main problem with these types of applications is that they are not usually free, so we have tried to combine price and quality when thinking about our selection. Keep in mind, however, that cheaper applications usually sell special packs of brushes, colors, etc. separately, so they may be a good option for a first try, but it will probably pay off to opt for one of the starting price a little higher if the experience convinces you, because in the long run they will surely end up involving less outlay.
- Paper. The 2012 Apple Design Award winning app and one of the most popular. A clean and intuitive layout for drawing, take notes, generate diagrams, etc. It is free but, as we said, to expand the resources for drawing you will have to make additional purchases from the application itself.
- Art Set. This application is an intermediate step between Paper and other more complex ones. It is kept at a level of simplicity that makes it affordable for users with less technical knowledgeBut it tries to offer a wide range of alternatives and strives to achieve the realism of higher-level applications. The initial price is affordable, € 0,79, but as in the case of Paper you may need subsequent purchases if you want to continue squeezing its possibilities.
- ArtStudio. With this application we move to higher quality levels. Not only does it offer you the possibility of applying various painting and drawing techniques, but also a wide variety of instruments for each of them and a long series of functions to control your creation in detail. Despite its capacity, it is also an application interesting for beginners, as it contains various drawing lessons (animals, humans, 3D, perspective ...) The price is a little higher, € 2,39, but it includes all the benefits from the beginning.
- Procreate. This application is the last rung of our ladder. It assumes the greater variety of tools of the applications presented (up to 45 types of brushes, for example), very realistic finishes, speed of operation and spectacular touch control sensitivity. Obviously, there are even more expensive and complex applications, but this is probably the one that offers a best quality / price ratio. It can be purchased for € 3,99.
