Galaxy Note 8 vs LG V30: comparison with the best Samsung and LG phablets

comparative phablets

It has just been presented at the IFA, as planned, the LG V30, and of course it is necessary to face him in a comparative to the other great Android phablet that we knew last week and that, of course, is none other than that of Samsung: we leave you with the last chapter of the battle between the Korean giants: Galaxy Note 8 vs. LG V30. Which do you like best?

Designer

It must be said that if we compare it with its predecessors, the LG V30 looks better than ever, and the battle is really complicated in this section: in both cases a front with minimal frames stands out above all else and we have, of course, the best finishes and materials, fingerprint reader and water resistance and dust, although it is true that the balance tips to the side of the Galaxy Note 8 still thanks to some details such as the iris scanner or facial recognition, but especially thanks to the fact that it comes with the S Pen.

Dimensions

Regarding the dimensions, it must be said that the phablet of LG It plays with an advantage because its screen is somewhat smaller, but be that as it may, the truth is that it is much more compact than the Galaxy Note 8 (16,25 x 7,48 cm against 15,17x 7,54 cm) and also significantly lighter (195 grams against 158 grams) and fine (8,6 mm against 7,4 mm). We will have to assess what matters to us most and how much: having a screen as large as possible or a device that is not too bulky.

Screen

As we just said, the screen of the Galaxy Note 8 it is bigger (6.3 inches against 6 inches), but in other sections we find very similar characteristics: the resolution of both is Quad HD although not exactly the same (2960 x 1440 against 2880 x 1440), they are used by the already almost standard aspect ratio in the high-end range (18: 9) and are mounted on OLED panels (Super AMOLED on Samsung's phablet and P-OLED on LG's).

Unlimited

Very similar data also in the performance section, although the Galaxy Note 8 he scores a point, yes, for arriving with 6 GB RAM memory already, instead of 4 GB. It also differentiates them that the version of the Samsung phablet that will be marketed arrives with a  Exynos 8895 eight-core and with a maximum frequency of 2,3 GHz, while in the LG we have a Snapdragon 835 eight-core and 2,45 GHz maximum frequency. The two arrive, yes, with Android Nougat.

Storage capacity

Absolute tie, however, in the section of storage capacity, at least with regard to the standard version that in both cases will have 64 GB internal memory, expandable via card micro-SD. The Galaxy Note 8 has in its favor, however, that there will be versions that will feature nothing less than 256 GB, for those who are willing to pay more to have more space.

Cameras

Both also have dual cameras, although its characteristics are a little different: those of the Galaxy Note 8 it's two o'clock 12 SM, with aperture f / 1.7 and with optical image stabilizer and also have optical zoom x2; that of LG V30 consists of one of 16 SM with aperture f / 1.6 and optical image stabilizer and another of 13 SM with aperture f / 1.9. The victory of the Samsung phablet in the front camera is clearer (8 SM against 5 SM).

Autonomy

Here we cannot say anything yet about which of the two will offer us better autonomy on a day-to-day basis, in actual use, but for now we can say, as a first approximation, that they start with a battery of exactly the same capacity. : 3300 mAh. This should be a point in favor of the LG V30, with a smaller screen, but the equation is not always as straightforward as that. In any case, it must be recognized that it is something to appreciate as it is thinner and lighter.

Galaxy Note 8 vs LG V30: final balance of the comparison and price

Unfortunately, you already know that LG It is usually somewhat reserved with the price of its devices and we will probably not have details of how much it will cost in each region of the world until it is launched internationally, a process that may be long. Taking into account the history of the firm, and although it is likely that this is one of its most expensive phablets, if not the most expensive, it seems unlikely that it will exceed 1010 euros from which the Galaxy Note 8, which on the other hand has a few points in its favor to justify a somewhat higher price. LG, if anything, he's ready to make things a little more difficult for Samsung in the realm of phablets.
