Samsung promised a few months ago that updates to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for a good part of their devices they would arrive soon, in the case of mobiles they talked about the first quarter of the year and they did. With the tablets they spoke of July and August and it seems that they will meet the deadlines exactly. The users of the 7-inch models were able to update their devices in different ways for a month now and now it is the turn of the large format ones, the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
From Italy and UK They confirm that the owners of Galaxy Tab 10.1 are gradually receiving the update by OTA and Kies. In the case of Italy it is for the model with 3G and in the United Kingdom the version with WiFi only. These two movements are a sign of a process of updates that will reach the whole of Europe. We do not have a specific date to know when it will arrive in Spain specifically.
If you can't wait any longer and want to update your Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi + 3G (model P7500) to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, we have prepared a tutorial to do it without the need for OTA or Kies and in a clean way. It is a root solution that avoids us messes with application crashes or closures.
The first thing is to make a backup of everything you have on your tablet. Make a backup of everything you have on your hard drive and even take screenshots of the installed applications and the home to remember what you had and how you had it.
Once everything is saved, let's go for it!
Note: Our tablet with Honeycomb 3.2 had ROOT and doing this removes it, but don't worry it can be easily put back. We will tell you how in another tutorial.
The first step is to return the tablet to the default settings. Go to the Privacy / Restore factory settings menu. It will ask us for the Samsung user password. We give it to him and wait for the tablet to restart with the default values.
Once restarted, we turn it off and go with something else.
Download required files
We will need these to take the next step:
odin 1.85 to flash
ICS ROM 4.0.4 for Galaxy Tab P7500 (3G)
On our computer, we unzip the ODIN, which does not need installation because it is a portable program, and we put it in a folder. Now, we also unzip the .ZIP of the ROM, look for a file with the extension .tar.md5 and also put it in the same folder as the ODIN, so that they are together.
Go to Downloading mode of the tablet
Now with the tablet turned off we connect it via USB port to the computer. We turn on the tablet using the POWER button and simultaneously pressing the volume button next to the POWER button.
Two icons will appear on the screen. We select the one on the right that indicates the Downloading mode and we wait for it to load.

Installing the ICS 4.0.4 ROM
Once the Downloading mode is loaded, we open the ODIN on our computer with administrator permissions (Windows 7) and by means of the appearance of a com port in yellow it will indicate that the tablet has been recognized successfully.
By clicking on the PDA button we select the file that we want to load, which is none other than the .tar.md5 extension and we press the START button. We leave everything as default, we don't select any extra option like re-partition or anything. Take a look at the screenshot below to see it.

We will let it charge completely and when the loading bar is complete, something that will take about 3 minutes, the tablet will restart itself and ICS will be installed on our tablet.
Tips to make the ROM absolutely clean
On its first start the tablet will install Samsung applications. If we really want there to be no trace inherited from the previous Honeycomb ROM, we recommend that you turn off the tablet and turn it on again using the combination of the POWER button with the volume button next to it.
This will return us to the previous menu. This time we choose the option on the left.

From there, we select the actions WIPE DATA and WIPE CACHE. Once done, we proceed with a SYSTEM REBOOT and the tablet will restart with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich perfectly and cleanly.

It is done! From now on you can enjoy Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
