How to use the iPhone as a GPS antenna of the iPad Wifi

We recently discussed how to connect an iPad to a Bluetooth GPS antenna via Wi-Fi . However, if you have a jailbroken iPhone , you can also use it as a GPS antenna for your tablet. While the accuracy is significantly less than with a Bluetooth GPS antenna, if you only need to geolocate your iPad occasionally and already own the phone, this option is undoubtedly more economical.

To do this, we'll also use either of the two Cydia tweaks we discussed previously: Btstack GPS or RoqyBT4 , both costing around €5 (US$8). Obviously, both your iPad and iPhone will need to be jailbroken. Again, we refer you to our tutorial on how to do this. With everything ready, we need to install Btstack GPS or RoqyBT4 on the iPad . Both can be found in the default Cydia repositories. While you'll need to pay to download Btstack GPS from the alternative repository, you'll need to purchase a license for RoqyBT4 after installation.

On the iPhone, we installed the TryGPSOut tweak , which isn't free either, but this time it only costs $1. We activated it and saw the system's GPS data appear.

With the bluetooth activated on the iPhone, we open Btstack GPS or RoqyBT4 and connect to the phone from the Tablet. From that moment, TryGPSOut will be transferring the GPS data to the iPad, which can now be used by any geolocation or navigation application such as Navigon or TomTom.

Obviously, the performance of the batteries of both devices will be compromised, so we recommend that you carry both connected to a power source. In the case of using it in the car, there are dual USB cigarette lighter chargers that can be very useful.
