Intel Bay Trail, the quad core processor of future Windows 8 tablets

At its annual conference in Beijing, Intel has talked about its new line of processors Bay Trail. These will have the mission of promoting the line of Windows 8 tablets and even in the future version 8.1, at the end of this year 2013. It has been said of this new Atom microarchitecture that it is completely new and that it will double the current power of Intel processors that make the current generation of tablets move thanks to quad core processors.

Another aspect to highlight of this future processors is that they will allow to make equipment designs as thin as 8 mm. These will have a battery that will last all day and weeks in stand-by.

However, as we said, the most remarkable feature is that the Bay Trail will be composed of four Atom cores. The extra power comes from a somewhat special design and the graphics capacity of the card Intel HD Graphics 4000.

This new chip is the first redesign of the Atom microarchitecture since it debuted in 2008. In this long career they have given strength to many processors and in this last year to tablets and some smartphones. Bay Trail for its part is manufactured to 22 nanometers and with Tri-Gate transistors, like the Ivy Bridges that we find in current high-end laptops for a year.

At the end of this year and specifically in the Christmas holidays, we will see Dell, Lenovo, HP, Acer and Hewlett Packard devices appear. At the moment, it is known that a new power version of the HP Envy X2 will be seen, which is already having a good reception in the American market. A new version of Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 with the said processor and Intel HD Graphics 4000 is also expected.

In this way, quad-core processors will no longer be only a thing of ARM tablets and we will see better multitasking capacity in Windows 8 tablets.
