It's time to highlight the best of the year and it seems that, as far as games are concerned, we already have practically all the laurels handed out: last week Google announced its favorites , yesterday Apple did so and tonight The Game Awards , the Oscars of video games, have also arrived, among which was an award for best mobile game, which has gone to Monument Valley 2.
Monument Valley 2 takes “the Osca” of mobile games
Most of the attention at The Game Awards is focused on PC and console games, but with the rise of mobile games , it's not surprising that a specific award for this category has been included in recent times, even if it always remains a bit in the background compared to the event's classics.
And, as we've already mentioned, this year's winner of the award is none other than Monument Valley 2. It's not a particularly surprising decision, although it's true that the sequel hasn't been received with the same enthusiasm as the original title, but it's undeniable that it remains one of the best games of the year, certainly one of the most important, and a worthy winner.
The other nominees
For those who weren't aware of the awards, it's still interesting to take a look at the other nominees if we're looking for inspiration to try a new game, although it must be said that at least a couple of titles aren't going to reveal anything new to us, since they are two of Nintendo's most popular games: one is Fire Emblem Heroes , a reasonable candidate considering the great ratings it has received, and the other is Super Mario Run , a much more controversial one if we consider the criticism it has received despite its download success.
The other two games on the list are premium titles from much less well-known studios, which we may have overlooked. However, we talked about one of them just yesterday, and it happens to be an iOS exclusive: Hidden Folks , a hidden object game that shines far above what the genre usually offers. We also talked about the other one here, though some time ago: the quirky adventure game Old Man's Journey.
A few more weeks of games before the end of the year
Although practically all the major awards have already been given out, there are still a few weeks left in the year to discover new games, and although it is true that we are unlikely to see too many major releases, we must remember that just yesterday the sequel to one of the highest-rated card games, Reigns Her Majesty , debuted.
And we remind you that we have also started our own review of the most interesting things of the year, although we are going to focus more, as always, on free titles: we have already given you a first selection with the best action games of 2017 , but if you prefer other styles, don't worry because we will be bringing you others dedicated to other genres as well.
