Ouya it is slowly reaching the homes of those who supported it when it was just a Kickstarter project. Even with certain delays the units are leaving and it seems that in May all the patrons will have received it. In any case, those users as well as those who are reserving it for June expect a powerful team to have a processor that has given very good results like Nvidia's Tegra 3. However, the performed benchmarks are not being as positive as expected.
Ouya game developer James Coote has collaborated with Futuremark, the parents of the famous 3DMark test, to check the performance of the first Android console on the market. The results have been a bit low with 4.077 points that place it in the position 73 in the ranking of Android devices by power. This means that it is above the Nexus 7, with 3.551, but below other equipment such as the Asus Transformer Infinity with 4.246. Both devices have been pointers and it does not seem that entering between the two is a bad position. Processor 3GHz Quad Core Tegra 1,7, accompanied by 1GB of RAM memory, guarantees a more than acceptable performance for the current state of video games for mobile devices. You can see the video of the test here.
However, there are already new models on the street that carry clearly superior processors. Qualcomm provides three chips that are above: Snapdragon S4 Pro, 600 and 800. These are found in the Xperia Z, HTC One or Galaxy S4. Nexus 4 for example obtained 10.201 points in this same benchmark.
It is clear that there are devices that right now go above Ouya in terms of performance but this is not synonymous with not being able to obtain a more than satisfactory gaming experience with it. The developers know what processor they have and this one is not lame at all. That it will become obsolete as new titles come out is something we can take for granted, but this is a common denominator with any team.
