The Project Ara development team wanted to give us a better understanding of what they're working on. Google's highly anticipated modular phone is starting to take shape, and a fun video reveals some of its main features. Apparently, there are three reference sizes , with the largest falling into the phablet category.
Being able to build your own phone is every geek 's dream . Choosing its components, screen resolution, and customizing its appearance would make each user's phone unique . Today we can learn how they're approaching these ideas in Mountain View.
Several companies led by Google itself work at Project Ara. Phonebloks is one of them and has brought us the video that we show you today.
Project Ara: visually modular
From what we can see, modularity won't be hidden from an aesthetic point of view . We'll see small boxes into which the different component modules will be attached. These will slide into their respective compartments with a connector suited to their needs.
From what we have seen there will be three sizes: large or phablet with 4 x 7 modules, medium with 3 x 6 modules and small with 2 x 5 modules.
They have also shown us what the finishes will be like and the level of customization that we can achieve. For this, 3D printing technologies provided by the company 3D Systems will be used.
An application to compose the phone
We've seen that an app is being developed to allow users to build their own phone . The company Sosolimited is collaborating on this project, and it seems that Moto Maker for the Moto X is a clear inspiration.
The application will be accessible from the web but will also be available for mobile devices. It will be intuitive and very visual.
Not only will it help us to choose the technical configuration of the equipment, but it will also assist us in the aesthetic section. We have seen that we will have many finishing options with different patterns and color options.
