Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8. Tablet limits are broken

Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8

Since tablets became established in the mobile device market, we have seen models arrive or prototypes are presented that challenge the limits between the portability of tablets and the functions of more classic and established models. The case of convertible or hybrid tablets and its relationship with laptops is classic. Samsung has also made its first steps with the Galaxy Note range that brings the phablet, that fusion of tablet and smartphone so useful for professionals. Well, Samsung proposes something that mix tablet with Media PlayerThe new Galaxy Player 5.8.

Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8

This device has already been officially confirmed and will be presented at the next IFA from Berlin which starts this Friday. This device is a media player with Android operating system like some others. The difference is that this one has a 5,8 inch LCD screen, a size halfway between tablets and smartphones and much larger than other players like the iPod Touch with only 3,5 inches, or like the other Galaxy Players that had reached the maximum of 5 inches. Your screen resolution is 960 x 540 pixels.

This player will have an operating system Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and it will be controlled by the interface TouchWiz UX. It will connect to the internet by WiFi only and will have a storage capacity of 16 GB or 32 GB with a battery of 2500 mAh. It will carry a 3 MPX camera and a VGA front. Its weight will be 221 grams. The remarkable thing will be their two powerful speakers What do they say will the software take? SoundAlive, which is already in other products in the Galaxy range, at its best in terms of sound.

We still need more details such as the price, but we will know soon at the IFA in Berlin.

The specialized media say that Samsung seems to want to cover all screen sizes possible on the market. It is true that it does it on tablets, smartphones, televisions, monitors, screens and media players and it seems that it does not want to be left out of any battle. This might make even more sense now that has lost its legal battle with Apple. But I think Samsung is also polling consumers who just don't know what to do with these kinds of portable devices yet. This almost tablet multimedia player is a clear example of this.

The all-in-one of the high-end smartphones would seem like the solution, although the battery life as well as the small screen seem inconvenient. Tablets are too big even though they offer solutions like larger players and workstations, but at that size a laptop works best. On the contrary, tablets and laptops can be reproached for not being able to make calls.

We are still not sure if it is better to have a total device or one for every situation. Portability has brought many unknowns that developer companies have to solve with the help and final verdict of consumers.
