The best war games for Android tablets and iPad (2017)

bullet force game

Wars are one of the most common settings used in all kinds of games , with a wide variety of environments and gameplay mechanics. So, to narrow things down and make your selection easier, we're going to focus on titles that aim for a degree of realism and modern weaponry. Here are a few of the most interesting ones from the App Store and Google Play.

Bullet Force

Of course, among FPS games , it's easy to find countless war-themed titles, including some legendary franchises, and it wouldn't be difficult to fill our top 5 list with just those. The one we've chosen to highlight is a relatively recent title, not from a major studio, which hasn't stopped it from already winning over many players. It's worth noting, however, that it's geared towards multiplayer (although there are offline practice modes), so it's more about demonstrating your combat skills than enjoying a good war story.

Frontline Commando

We don't want to limit ourselves to the big franchises, but it's inevitable to mention some of the great classics, and we've chosen Brother in Arms to offer an option for those who enjoy shooters but prefer third-person shooters , with a slightly more strategic combat system based on cover. Frontline Commando is also an interesting alternative to Bullet Force-type games, which are more focused on multiplayer, giving us more context for combat, because here we do have a campaign mode, with a classic war story that puts us in the shoes of the last survivor of a devastating attack. And if we get hooked, there are several more installments to sink our teeth into, with slightly different settings.

Among war games, those that put us in control of warships and aircraft instead of soldiers are also very popular, and we can't pass up the opportunity to highlight some of them. Air Combat AOL is a pretty safe bet, as it's one of the most popular air combat games , with great graphics and several game modes. The narrative also takes a backseat here, since the multiplayer mode is the star, but if we prefer to play independently, we can focus on completing missions in campaign mode or test our endurance in survival mode.

World of Tanks Blitz

Among these action games featuring vehicles, there's a subgenre that's been booming lately: multiplayer tank battles . The best example of its popularity is undoubtedly World of Tanks Blitz , the great classic of this type of game. There are other more recent titles, but this one has little to envy them and has the advantage of a much larger user community. Except for the fact that tanks replace soldiers, the gameplay mechanics aren't too far removed from the norm (with team battles and the possibility of forming clans), so it won't take long to get the hang of it if you decide to give it a try for the first time.

Boom Beach

While it may not be the most original suggestion, we're going to opt for a classic in the strategy game genre : Supercell 's other big hit , only overshadowed by the unparalleled popularity of Clash of Clans: Boom Beach . As always, our main objective will be to defend our base and build an army that allows us to conquer resources. However, we won't just be facing other players, but also a common enemy (the Dark Guard) that serves as the basis for creating alliances and participating in cooperative missions with other users.

This War of Mine

The bonus entry in our top 5 is a game that's not only paid, but quite expensive, especially compared to what we're used to seeing on mobile devices. It's also very different from the usual war games because instead of offering an action-packed story with soldiers as protagonists, it invites us to experience a survival story by putting us in the shoes of civilians trapped in the middle of a civil war (it's actually inspired by accounts of the Siege of Sarajevo). It's certainly not an adrenaline-pumping game, and it can even be somewhat unpleasant due to the situations it presents, but it's an excellent title that's definitely worth the price, especially if you enjoy survival games.
