Tips to take care of the iPad battery

With vacations and the travel that come with them, our tablets' battery life is put to the test more than ever . While the 10 hours of battery life promised by Apple seems sufficient for most situations (without access to a power outlet), there are accessories that allow you to recharge without plugging in. However, carrying these around can be inconvenient. Knowing tricks to extend battery life can be the best solution in a pinch.

1. Turn off Wi-Fi and 3G on your iPad. Aside from internet usage, Wi-Fi and 3G connections consume significant power , so avoiding leaving them on when you're not using them or don't plan to use them for a short time is essential. You can turn them off in the settings menu or simply put your iPad in airplane mode.

2. Turn off Bluetooth on your iPad. Just like with the internet connection, Bluetooth drains a lot of battery, even when you're not using it . Since you don't use it very often, the best option is probably to keep it turned off and only turn it on when you need it.

3. Turn off Push Notifications on your iPad. Select the apps you actually want to receive notifications from and turn off all the others. This might be one of the more tedious tasks, as you have to configure it manually for each app , but the energy savings will be worth it, especially if you already have a significant number of apps installed.

4. Turn off Location Services on your iPad. The number of apps that provide geolocation services is constantly growing, and while they can be useful, they aren't always essential to enjoy them, as is often the case with social media. Turning them off can save you a significant amount of data.

5. Use the iPad's Auto-Brightness feature. Obviously, the higher the brightness level you select for your screen, the more energy it will consume. Automatically adjusting the screen brightness based on ambient conditions is the best way to avoid wasting power. You can select this feature in Settings > Brightness.

6. Don't use your iPad when it's too hot . The iPad uses lithium-ion batteries, which are very sensitive to heat and therefore suffer when exposed to very high temperatures. When can a temperature be considered too high? To help you decide, keep in mind that Apple recommends temperatures around 22°C (72°F) for optimal device performance.
