The top 5 list of the best new free games for Android could have been compiled this week almost entirely from SEGA Forever , the collection of classics that we can now download for free, but for those who don't succumb so easily to nostalgia, we've also included a few of the best-received new releases.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Although we promised to include other titles, we can't start this ranking with any other game than Sonic the Hedgehog , that great classic of platformers , rivaled only by Mario Bros. If you want to relive some of the most fun moments of your childhood or experience firsthand one of the most iconic chapters in video game history, now that it's been re-released for free, there's no excuse not to.
Comix Zone
There are many other titles to choose from, but just like on the App Store, it seems that, leaving aside the hedgehog, the one that has the most pull on Google Play at the moment is this Comix Zone , a classic of fighting games much more sophisticated in terms of narrative than we are used to in the genre, telling us panel by panel the story of a comic book writer who has to face the villains from his own pen.
Race kings
Leaving SEGA Forever aside, the most successful release of the week is probably Race Kings , although it's worth noting that its triumph isn't without controversy. Despite being a racing game with high-quality graphics and physics, the online competition experience (which is the heart of the game) isn't well optimized. We don't know if this will be fixed soon via an update, but since it's free, it's worth giving it a try.
Great Battle Royale
If you prefer combat to racing for an adrenaline rush, the hottest title right now is another multiplayer game , this Grand Battle Royale , where you face off against players from all over the world with very few restrictions in your fight for survival. The pixelated, cartoonish aesthetic gives it a cute touch, but don't be fooled, because what awaits you is a fierce battle to be the last one standing.
Flipping legend
Although it hasn't yet achieved the download success of its predecessors, we can't fail to mention Flippng Legend, if only because it's the work of none other than the creators of the popular Alto's Adventure . While the aesthetic is similar, it's worth noting that the gameplay mechanics are quite different, as this is more of an action game —a peculiar one, to be sure—that also incorporates elements of a runner or platformer, requiring us to move with a certain rhythm and according to specific patterns.
More free games for Android
And you know that if you're still hungry for more, we'll keep you updated throughout the week on the most interesting news in Android gaming.
